Interesting home theater additions…

July 31, 2007

Not sure why I never heard of these before… but they seem like components worth keeping an eye on going forward. Maybe I could pre-load images on such a device? Would there be any value in that to local customers?

Galaxy TVisto 3500

Galaxy 3500 IPTV Digital Multimedia Gateway

and here’s a “remarkably similar” product…

G-TECH’s G-PLAY

which was designed to compete with La Cie’s Silverscreen

and of course there are other digital media players, but they aren’t nearly as feature rich – such as the Creative ZEN Vision W

then of course, there’s the AMAZING Archos Generation 5 players… Sweet!

Selling old geek gadgets

July 27, 2007

What to do with my growing number of “old gadgets”?

  • iPod Mini, 4GB
  • Treo 650
  • Canon Elura 40MC
  • Sony Cybershot P10
  • Canon EOS 10s body
  • Palm V
  • Palm Personal (yes, I’ve been using them that long!)
  • and probably others…

I could go the traditional eBay or Craigslist route… but I also found out about Second Rotation and Free Cycle as possible alternatives.  Now all I need to do is to find the time to “sell them”.

Wow… Florida is Flat!

July 27, 2007

orlando-horizon.jpgI don’t live in the Rocky Mountains. On the east coast, we have the Blue Ridge and Appalachian mountains, but by western standards you could hardly call them mountains. Still, at least our horizon has a profile…

I just came back from a biz trip to Orlando FL… Wow! Florida is Flat!!

This is a Treo 650 photo (pitiful) from my hotel room balcony – the Orlando Marriott World Center and Resort

Microsoft and Open source?

July 27, 2007

A new “marketing” page highlighting MS’s interaction with the open source community…

http://www.microsoft.com/opensource/

I was hoping to find a list of all the open source projects that MS contributes to or leads… In the few minutes I spent on the site I wasn’t able to find that.  Have you?

Wand-diculous!

July 26, 2007

No, it’s not a new Harry Potter spell learned at Hogwarts, but it is something I saw related to Harry Potter.  Now I like Harry Potter… I don’t love it like some people do.  Also, while I may be a pack-rat to some extent, I’m not a true “collector” of anything in particular.  But…

Yesterday, I was having dinner with my boss in Orlando FL – where were having a Linux seminar this morning. We went to Downtown Disney and ate at Bongo’s – a cuban place there.  Good food, BTW.  After dinner we walked around a bit and went into a store which had a lot of collectible items — mostly autographed movie poster, a baseball bat signed by Lou Gherig (I think), a neat photo of the Capitol Building in Washington DC which has been signed by the last 12 US Presidents over a 30+ year span, and much more.  One of the things in the store was an original Harry Potter wand prop that was used in the actual filming of the movie.  It was mounted in a nice frame with a large picture of Harry in a spell-casting pose.

How much would you be willing to pay for that collectible wand??  (It looked to be made of plastic, by the way)…  Okay, if you were Harry Potter’s biggest fan, how much would you be willing to pay then?

What number did you come up with?  $1000, $5000??  maybe much less?

Well, you can take that movie prop home for a mere $35,000!  What a bargain!  Honestly, I can’t recall if it was $29,995 or $39,995… but does it really matter??

Soccer fans in Iraq get car-bombed by terrorists

July 25, 2007

According to this CNN article, over 50 people were killed and many more were injured as two car bombers detonated their bombs amongst soccer fans who were celebrating the Iraqi national soccer team’s victory in the Asian Cup semi-finals. This is just rediculous!

Why would these jack-ass terrorists hurt these innocent people??  They’re retarded!!  They were celebrating a soccer victory, not holding a pro-US demonstration.  If the Iraqi government has any sense at all, they would use this event as a propaganda proof point that clearly these terrorists are out to just hurt innocent Iraqi citizens.  I wonder if any American’s were hurt or if any Iraqi government officials were hurt?  Clearly this one missed the mark and I can only hope it causes some people in Iraq to wake up to the realities of the situation… that these terrorists really don’t have their best interests at heart.

It’s strange though… I haven’t heard any political pundits here in the US commenting one little bit on it.  I wonder why?

Prison time well spent…

July 21, 2007

I guess they’ve got nothing better to do.  May as well recreate a classic Michael Jackson video.  I wonder if this will help them get jobs in the music industry once they are released?
