“Open” Business model?

March 30, 2007

An idea, I wanted to blog about. For whatever reason, I get ALOT of people who contact me wanting to know the ins and outs of Shoebox Memories. They want to do something similar in their home town and want my advice on tools, capabilities, etc. In the future, I could modify my business to be an “open model” with the goal being to help drive adoption of Linux. When I can figure out how to run 100% of the business on Linux applications, I can make this happen. Mainly I need the DVD authoring and Video editing tools to be improved significantly.

All the “how-to’s” would be published openly… as long as one uses Linux as the platform. The community could contribute and grow around it. I could have links from my webpage to others who are “dedicated” to Linux in this fashion as well. I could offer training and starter materials (templates and experience) as premium services. Training could be delivered remotely with Linux based technologies.

Maybe some day…
