“Air Quotes” to a 4-Year Old

August 7, 2011

It’s been quite a while since I last posted to this blog, but I didn’t want to forget this one…

We were sitting down at dinner at home, and Nicholas made that “air quote” sign with his fingers.  As he did that he gave an emphatic, “Boo hoo!”  I thought to myself, that’s strange… that a little boy who can’t really read would be doing that.  So I told him, “Nicholas, you can’t do that [sign] if you don’t know what it means.”

Without hesitation, and still doing the air-quote sign… he said, “It’s bendy bunny ears, DUH!”

Where is he getting this attitude??  :-)

A sign of too much TV…

August 1, 2009

This morning, Lauren mentioned Sham Wow.  We asked her what that was and where she saw it… she said on TV… and she new it was a towel… and that you can use it in the bathroom, kitchen, etc.  Too funny!  She often wakes up early and watches TV… I guess she must have seen it then.  Most 4-5 year olds can recite Disney or other kids shows… My daughter… informercials!

If you’ve never seen the Sham Wow commercial with “Vince”, check it out:

Baby Birds on our Driveway

May 7, 2009

As Alice was getting ready to take the kids to school this morning, she found a newborn baby bird on our driveway. We aren’t sure how it got there. There’s a nest in a tree about 30 feet away, but that baby bird would have had to climb a long way to get that far up the driveway.  THEN, we found a second baby bird, about 10 feet away from the first.  They were both alive, although clearly helpless… their eyes closed and featherless.  In the end, Alice took the birds to the vet to try and rescue them.  I would not have been so kind.

Here you can see all the pics.

Hanna Barberra makes a comeback in our house

April 28, 2009

You may or may not know who Hanna Barberra is or was… but maybe you’ll remember names like:  Scooby Doo, Smurfs, Captain Caveman, Wacky Race, etc…

These are cartoons of my generation.

My kids have discovered them on Boomerang (retro cartoons channel) and that’s now all they like to watch on TV.  Too funny!

I was telling Alice that our kids are going to be able to relate to all their friends’ parents… and not their friends at school.

Soccer Day 1

April 18, 2009

Today was the first day of organized soccer for Lauren and Thomas.  I think they had a blast… although they were admittedly tired.   I need to get them some athletic shorts and soccer cleats!

Lauren getting married?

April 12, 2009

I thought this was pretty funny… The other night, we were at Ruby Tuesday’s with the family and my sister was there. She’s planning on having Lauren be a flower-girl at her wedding later this year and was trying to tell Lauren all about that role. The conversation turned into one of marriage and weddings, and Lauren said, “I don’t want to get married…”

We told her it’ll be her decision to get married or not, but I asked her why she did not want to get married.

She said, “Because she doesn’t like kissing.”

I thought it was pretty funny…
